Introductory courses

Linear Algebra An introductory course in Linear Algebra will be offered in September 2026 according to the timetable below; the instructor will be Lucio Geronazzo. The course will introduce notions about operations with vectors and matrices, dependent and independent vectors, linear systems.

These notions will be useful for the courses of Mathematics for Economics and Mathematical Methods for Economic Analysis, as well as for each econometrics course.

Timetable:

  • Monday, Sept. 7, 8.30am - 10am, room D4/002;
  • Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2.30pm - 4.30pm, room D4/114;
  • Thursday, Sept. 10, 8.30am - 10am, room D4/112.

 

 

Mathematical Analysis An introductory course in Mathematical Analysis will be offered in September 2026 according to the timetable below; the instructor will be Domenico Menicucci. The course will introduce notions about functions of one variable such as the Continuity, Differential Calculus, Maximization/Minimization, Integral Calculus.

These notions will be useful for the courses of Mathematics for Economics and Mathematical Methods for Economic Analysis, as well as for any other course that relies on quantitative tools.

Timetable:

  • Monday, Sept. 7, 2pm - 4pm, room D4/006;
  • Tuesday, Sept. 8, 11.30am - 1.30pm, room D4/106;
  • Wednesday, Sept. 9, 11.30am - 1.30pm, room D6/004;
  • Thursday, Sept. 10, 3pm - 5pm, room D5/113.

 

Statistics An introductory course in Statistics will be offered in September 2026 according to the timetable below; the instructor will be Alberto Cassese. It will introduce basic definitions, fundamental theorems and formulas of probability theory.

These notions will be useful for the courses Statistical Inference, Measurement and Causes of Poverty, and for each econometrics course.

Timetable:

  • Monday, Sept. 7, 10am - 1pm, room D6/105;
  • Tuesday, Sept. 8, 9am - 11am, room D4/113;
  • Wednesday, Sept. 9, 9am - 11am, room D4/113;
  • Thursday, Sept. 10, 11am - 2pm, room D6/105.
Final Remarks These courses are recommended for each student whose background does not include the notions listed above. No registration is required: students interested in attending only need to show up in the room where the lecture is scheduled, at the proper time.
