The goal of this course is to introduce some basic ideas of Microeconomic Theory, in particular the fundamental principles of choice under uncertainty, game theory for games with simultaneous moves and for dynamic games, and general equilibrium. Students need to know basic probability theory (the content of the preliminary notes available in the website of the course Statistical Inference suffices), and basic calculus for functions of one variable and of several variables.
The website for this course (which can be reached from here, or by searching here Game Theory and Microeconomics 2024-2025) includes classnotes, problems with solutions, and the text of a few past written test. Students can access to the website as guests (“Accesso ospiti” in Italian), even though they are not yet enrolled in the MSc Economics and Development, using the password ("Chiave") for guests -- please contact professor Menicucci (domenico.menicucci@unifi.it) to receive the password for guests.
This course introduces some notions of mathematics which are necessary to understand models in economics: Linear algebra, Some topology in metric spaces, Differential calculus in Euclidean spaces, Nonlinear programming.

This course introduces the cornerstones of inferential statistics: the concept of statistical model, the tools of point estimation, interval estimation, statistical hypothesis testing.

The material available in the website includes
• Notes on mandatory pre-knowledge, along with all course-related content.
• Tutorial materials, including links to video recordings.
• Statistical tables necessary for solving exercises.
• Examples of past written exams.
⚠ Important: Understanding the theory explained in the notes is crucial to mastering the course topics and to prepare to take the exam. Focussing only on the past exams is not sufficient to be well prepared.
