Two introductory courses, one in mathematics, one in statistics, have been offered between Sept. 9 and Sept. 12, 2025.
Mathematics The introductory course in Mathematics is about the notions of functions of one variable, function's graph, domain, range, inverse, monotonicity, elementary functions, limits, continuity, differential calculus, maximization/minimization. These notions are useful for the courses of Mathematics for Economics and Mathematical Methods for Economic Analysis, as well as for each other course which relies on quantitative tools.
A good reference book for this material is the following (available in the Library at Campus Novoli):
Knut Sydsæter, Peter Hammond, Arne Strøm, Anders Carvajal: Essential Mathematics for Economic Analysis, Pearson 2016, 5th Edition.
Timetable:
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1pm - 3pm, room D6/005: Class content;
Statistics An introductory course in Statistics is about basic definitions, fundamental theorems and formulaes of probability theory. These notions will be useful for the courses Statistical Inference, Measurement and Causes of Poverty, and for each econometrics course.
Timetable:
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 9am - 11am, room D6/016;
