The MSc in Economics and Development is a rigorous two-year program (120 ECTS) designed to equip students with the analytical tools and multidisciplinary perspective needed to address today’s global economic challenges. Taught entirely in English, the program offers an international environment, with over 56% of our students coming from across the globe.
Students can choose between two specialized curricula:
-
Curriculum in Development Economics: Focused on the economies of developing countries, and in particular on sustainable growth, poverty reduction, and international cooperation.
-
Curriculum in Economics: Featuring tracks in Economics (theoretical and applied research) and Behavioural Economics (experimental analysis of decision-making).
The program balances a core foundation in economics and quantitative methods with essential skills in coding, finance, business, and law, while allowing students to significantly tailor their study path to their interests. Each first-year student is assigned an academic mentor available to provide advice and support, and students can apply for Research Assistantships, working directly with our faculty on cutting-edge research projects. Students also have extensive opportunities for international mobility, including three Double Degree programs (with the Universities of Göttingen, Bamberg, and Rennes).
Key competencies acquired by students include solid economic knowledge, problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and economic intuition, which are essential for a successful career as an economist and for admission to the best PhD programs worldwide.
