Step 1: Writing a thesis/dissertation on a topic which is relevant for the MSc, under the supervision of a professor whom the student can choose among the instructors of courses of the MSc.
The personal page of almost each professor, which can be reached by writing here the professor's name, indicates the professor's (research) interests. This may give insights about the topic of a thesis supervised by the professor.
Jointly, the supervisor and the student determine the thesis' topic, and whether the thesis should consist of a theoretical analysis, or of an empirical analysis, or both. The thesis needs to prove the student's ability to analyze relevant issues using the appropriate methods/tools, in a scientifically rigorous way. Moreover, the thesis needs to include some original contributions. There is no standard about the time needed to complete the thesis (nor about its length), but a rough estimate is obtained by noticing that 21 ECTS, the ECTS of the final exam, are 70% of 30 ECTS, the number of ECTS a student is ordinarily expected to earn in a semester. The supervisor determines when the thesis is ready to be presented and defended (Step 2).
Specialized software may be useful in writing a thesis. Please find here software which Unifi makes available to its students.
LaTeX is a very useful text processor if the thesis involves mathematical notation. Information about getting started with LaTeX is available here; here is the page of a users group. LaTeX may be also used through the online LaTeX editor called Overleaf.
Unifi libraries offer personalized help for bibliographic searches.
The School of Economics and Management suggests this template for the thesis' cover page.
